Professor Florence Bretelle is a senior clinician-scientist in gynecology and obstetrics at AP-HM (Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Marseille) and a full professor at Aix-Marseille University. She leads the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hôpital la Conception in Marseille and is affiliated with several research units, including UMR 1251 VITROME (IRD/INSERM/AMU).
Her research focuses on preterm birth prevention, reproductive tract infections, women's perinatal health, and the care of women affected by violence. She is the principal investigator of the multicenter AuTop trial, which evaluates molecular screening for bacterial vaginosis to reduce preterm deliveries. She has also led projects on perineal pain, maternal morbidity, and healthcare for vulnerable populations.
Professor Bretelle has authored over 390 peer-reviewed publications and her work has been cited more than 8,000 times, reflecting her major impact in maternal-fetal medicine and women's health research. She is regularly involved in expert advisory roles for public health authorities and scientific bodies.
She is also co-founder of La Maison des Femmes Marseille Provence, a multidisciplinary care center for women survivors of violence, integrating medical, psychological, and social support.
